Eat to live, don't live to eat

Eating healthy involves more than simply avoiding “bad” food. It means that you actively choose to eat nutritious food that nourishes your body.

A good place to begin is with fresh organic foods: they are free of the pesticides and herbicides that riddle conventional produce. Organic farming also preserves the topsoil, which contains vital minerals that are absorbed into the food.

A healthy diet prevents disease

Surgeon General C. Everett Koop said that diet and nutrition play a role in over 70% of diseases. I believe it’s closer to 90%. In the long run a poor diet leads to diseases such as cancer, heart problems or many chronic conditions that western medicine has not been able to cure because the underlying problem is nutrition.

The foundation for good health then, lies in feeding your body the nutrients that build and sustain it.

Basic guidelines for a healthy diet

  • Eat “real” food. By that I mean unprocessed meat, vegetables and fruit.
  • Combine foods that your stomach can digest easily. Each meal should consist of animal protein and vegetables. Don’t eat starches and protein at the same meal (say goodbye to the classic American steak and baked potato). Eat fruit separately from meat and vegetables.
  • Good animal proteins are beef (grass-fed), chicken, fish, turkey, eggs, game meats. Pork and shellfish come from scavengers and have high levels of toxins.
  • Use conventional methods of cooking because the microwave destroys the vitamins and enyzmes in food.
  • Avoid wheat, dairy, corn and soy. Applied Kinesiology can determine whether you belong to the large number of people who have problems with these foods.
  • Eliminate refined white sugar – it has no nutritional value.

Yes, eating healthy takes more time: you have to think about it in advance and be a conscious participant. The pay-off is your long-term good health and vitality.
